The Japanese Dictionary
Privacy Policy

Summary
The Japanese Dictionary is an offline app. Lookups, OCR, parse, history, notes, and study reviews run on your device. We do not run accounts, ads, analytics, or a backend that receives your content.
What stays on your device
The app may store the following locally so the features work:
- Search and visit history
- Study lists, review schedule, and review logs
- Word notes, including a sentence and an optional photo you attach from OCR
- Settings (layout, paste, study options, FSRS weights)
Deleting the app removes this data. You can also delete history and notes from inside the app.
Camera
If you allow camera access, it is used to photograph Japanese text. Recognition runs on-device with Apple Vision. Photos are not uploaded. A photo is saved only if you attach it to a word note on this device.
Clipboard
Optional auto-paste can read the clipboard for search, OCR, or parse. That text or image is handled on-device and is not sent to us.
What we do not collect
- No sign-in or profile
- No tracking, advertising IDs, or usage analytics
- No crash or telemetry service
- No sale or sharing of personal data
Internet use
Dictionary, names, kanji, and example sentences ship in the app. Opening a license link in Settings uses Safari. That is the only intentional network use.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above.
